Oil Boom Magnets
When securing an oil boom around a leaking shipwreck, there is a huge advantage in being able to attach it at the water level rather than maindeck. This eliminates the gap between oil boom and hull so that the oil cannot escape into the environment.
Depending on the size of the boom and the weather conditions, you may choose between 500 kg or 800 kg holding force (1100 lbs or 1750 lbs). Note that the actual holding force may be somewhat less due to airgap caused by rust, paint or uneven hull surfaces. Thick layers of marine growth should always be scraped off before attaching the magnet.
Simply attach the magnet directly at the hullside and connect the oil boom to it. In case of a large tidal range, you can let the oil boom travel up and down along a rope between two magnets.
